Behind The Ear

BTE devices are the ‘classic’ hearing aid design.  The main body of the device sits on the top of the ear, with sound being channelled into the ear through a custom made plastic or silicone mould.

BTE devices are the most powerful style, so are the best option if you have a severe or profound hearing loss.  They also give the option to have both volume controls and programmable push-buttons.  These allow you to adjust the sound level louder and softer and to change the way the devices work by selecting different listening programs for different situations. Devices can be set up in many different ways, but an example would be:

Program 1 =  Fully Automatic (the devices will adjust themselves to adapt to your listening environment)
Program 2 =  Noisy Environment  (the devices will give extra noise reduction and focus on speech from in front of you)
Program 3 =  Music  (the devices will be less automatic, to allow loud and soft elements of music to be enjoyed)

BTEs can now be fully water and dustproof, so can be a very good option if you spend time in wet or dusty environments.  They are also very flexible, as different fittings in the ear can suit different hearing loss configurations.

Like ITEs, BTEs tend to be quite visible on the ear, so are not the best option if you want your hearing devices to be discrete.  For similar fitting devices that are more hidden away, RITEs are a better option.

Hear Again offers a 45 day 100% Money-back Satisfaction Guarantee which allows you to try for yourself to find out if this style of device is suitable for you.  If not, there are many other styles of devices which will be options for you at no extra cost.
